Tianjing University, P.R. China

Founded in 1895 as Peiyang University, Tianjin University (TJU) is the first university in China. As the pioneer of modern higher education in China. TJU has been a National Key University since 1959 and it is also among the first group of universities to be included into the "211" and "985" Projects of national investment for developing world class universities. Now, TJU has grown into a world recognized research university with distinctive qualities and strengths in education, research and social service.
The Key Laboratory of Smart Grid, Ministry of Education, at Tianjin University was established in 2004. It concentrates on fundamental and applied researches in the fields of smart grid, integrated energy systems, renewable energy. Its achievements have been applied successfully in thousands of projects in over 200 cities in China.


Key Investigators

Prof. Jia Hongjie is a professor at Tianjin University. He became an Associate Professor of Tianjin University in 2002 and was promoted to Professor in 2006. From Jan. 2010 to May. 2014, he was the dean of school of Electrical Engineering and Automation in Tianjin University. His research specialty is integrated energy system, power system stability assessment, distributed generation and renewable energy, etc. In such research areas, he is the principal investigator of 16 important projects, including NSFC, 973 and 863. He has published more than 200 papers and gotten 20 patents. His doctor thesis was awarded as the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation of China. He was awarded as one of the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University by the Chinese Ministry of Education in 2005, China Youth Science and Technology Award in 2013, UK Royal Academy of Engineering Distinguished Visiting Fellowship in 2015. He became a member of All-China Youth Federation (ACYF) in 2010 and was selected into ‘131’ Innovative Talents of Tianjin Municipal in 2011.

Prof. Yu Yixin
joint Tianjin University in 1958. He became a professor in 1985. Professor Yu is an Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. He was a visiting scholar in the Department of EECS, California University (Berkeley). During 1991-1992 he was a visiting professor in the Department of EE, Washington University (Seattle). From 1995 to 1997 he was a Chair visiting professor on power system control in Kyushu Institute of Technology. His particular interests include analysis, planning and simulation of power system and integrated energy systems.

Associate Prof. Mu Yunfei
joint Tianjin University in 2012. He is now an associate professor. In 2010.11-2011.12, as an assistant researcher at the Energy Research Institute of Cardiff University in the UK, Dr. Mu was engaged in the research of the EU seventh framework MERGE project. His research interests include integrated energy systems, EV integration and renewable energy.

Associate Prof. Wang Dan
joint Tianjin University in 2015 as an associate professor. He worked as a post-doctoral at the Institute of Integrated Energy Systems, University of Victoria (IESVic) from 2010 to 2012. He worked in the Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IEECAS) as an advanced visiting scholar in 2012. His research interests include integrated energy systems, load demand response.

Facilities
TJU has built a comprehensive experimental platform for integrated energy system in the custom side with a wide variety of distributed generation units. It is equipped with PV panels (monocrystal PV, polycrystal PV, and thin-film PV), wind turbines (small wind power generator and DFIG simulator), combined cooling heating and power (CCHP) system driven by micro gas turbine, fuel cells, electrolytic hydrogen device, energy storage systems (lead-acid battery, Li-ion battery, super-capacitor, compressed-air, flow battery, flywheel), cooling and heating energy storage, ground-sourced heat pump, transmission line and load simulators, etc.
